Ethan Pope

More than a year ago, we joined forces to combine our ideas and different areas of expertise. In our project „Ethan, the Hyperpope“ we use our expertise in animation, film, media design and auditory to create a hyperreality.

Using deepfake and various AI‘s, we create an artificial person. Through Ethan, our world is observed and commented upon with an unbiased eye. Through this, the functioning and social structures of our (analogue and media) reality are critically examined and the concept of reality is questioned.

In our project we illuminate the artificial world from a new perspective. Using artistic and artificial visions and technology, we create a fictional character called „Ethan“ whoobserves, reacts and comments on the world with an artistic gaze. Through this concept we question the workings and social structures of our (analogue and synthetic media) reality and find new perspectives on the idea of a single reality. Ethan offers a uniquely different way to explore and experience the connection between art and technology in new ways.

Ethan, the Hyperpope is the nonbinary/gendernon- conforming twin of Jesus Christ.
